Rural Colombia
Landscapes, Villages and People of Colombia’s CountrysideWTC 3 Lobby, 30 May 2022 – 17 June 2022
Colombian farmers are a crucial part of our agricultural landscapes, as well as in the use and conservation of the vast biodiversity of the country.
Those who work the land leave their marks, they weave myths and legends, retell experiences trough songs and dances, cook their own food, are craftsmen of their everyday belongings and architects of their surroundings.
Country men and women have been heroic survivors of natural disasters, side-lining and many other difficulties, we admire their resilience to cope with these adversities.
Today, as we are aware of the depletion of natural resources in the world as a produce of industrialization, war, colonization and exploitation of wild areas, the abuse of natural sources, it is necessary to redirect our gaze to our farmers.
Rural Colombia, a carefully curated collection of photographs captured by the late Humberto Arango Gomez “Jaimar”, is an ohmage to the many cultural expressions, knowledge and techniques of this valuable people that leads us to reflect on the ways they have interacted with the rich ecological and geographical diversity that characterizes our country. It is also a tribute to their important contribution as tireless workers of this prosperous land that is Colombia.
This exhibition is dedicated to memory of “Jaimar” and the other more than 6 million people who, died due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
